Park and Ride and Public Transport Options

Knaresborough Christmas Market

How to find us: Located just a few miles from Harrogate in North Yorkshire, the historic market town of Knaresborough is easily accessible by road, rail or bus. The town is less than 5 miles from the A1 and is connected to national transport routes via regular trains from Leeds and York.

Arriving by car:

From the A1(M) North or South take the A59 exit and leave the roundabout in the direction of Harrogate. Go straight on at the next roundabout and then at the third roundabout take the third exit signed Knaresborough A59. After half a mile you will see signs to turn left to the FREE park and ride site at GSPK Manse Lane, Knaresborough. Free shuttle buses will take you to the market in the town 5 minutes away, where parking is very limited.

From Harrogate, Leeds or Otley take the A59 to Knaresborough. Follow the York Road to the FREE parking area at GSPK Manse Lane.

Parking: A FREE Park and Ride service is available all weekend from the GSPK car park on Manse Lane (HG5 8LF) to the Bus Station next to the Market Square.

Additional paid parking is available at Chapel Street, Fisher Street, York Place, Waterside and Conyngham Hall, These are all Pay and Display car parks operated by Harrogate & District Council.

Parking is limited close to the Market Square. We therefore strongly advise using the Park and Ride if at all possible.

Accessibility: the Park and Ride buses are single deckers with the usual access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. As mentioned above, parking is limited close to the Market Square and we are expecting a large number of visitors, so consider using the park and ride option if possible.

Arriving on Public Transport:

Trains – there are regular train services to and from York and Leeds. Leeds trains run every 30 minutes and York trains run every hour.

*NOTE* due to ongoing strike action, Northern are running a reduced timetable on Saturday 1 December. This means that the last trains to York and Leeds leave Knaresborough earlier than usual. Day time trains between 9am and 5.30pm will be running as usual.

The latest information we have is that the last train to York on Saturday leaves Knaresborough at 5:15pm and the last train to Leeds  leaves Knaresborough at 5:36pm.

However, we strongly advise checking the Northern Rail website prior to travelling. The market finishes at 5pm, so please bear in mind that the last train of the day might be busier than usual.

Sunday 2 December is unaffected, although the usual Sunday timetable will apply.

Buses – Knaresborough is served by regular buses to and from Harrogate (view timetables). These leave from the bus station next to the Market Square. The number 36 then provides onward travel to Ripon and Leeds.
