Market Place

Knaresborough Market Place is the heart of the Christmas Market weekend, although there are festive events taking place throughout the town. There are public car parks, a FREE park & ride facility, and the bus and railway stations only a short walk away.

Getting There and Away

The historic market town of Knaresborough in North Yorkshire is easily accessible by road, rail or bus. The town is less than 5 miles from the A1 and is connected to national transport routes via regular trains from Leeds and York. There is also a FREE Park and Ride service from GSPK, just off the A59.

Park and Ride

A FREE Park and Ride service is available all weekend from the GSPK car park on Manse Lane (HG5 8LF) to Chapel Street next to the market square. The Park and Ride buses are single deckers with the usual access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The buses are also dog friendly. There will be two buses running at peak times, with a journey time of around 10 minutes, depending on traffic. Buses will run from 8am - 5.30pm, but the gates won't be locked until 7pm for anyone wanting to walk back after the last bus. It is about a 20 minute walk from HG5 8AG to HG5 8LF.

By Car

From the A1(M) North or South

  • Take the A59 exit and leave the roundabout in the direction of Harrogate.
  • At the next roundabout take the third exit signed Knaresborough A59.
  • After a ½ mile you will see signs to turn left to the FREE park and ride site at GSPK, Manse Lane, Knaresborough, HG5 8LF.
  • Free shuttle buses will take you to the market in the town centre 5 minutes away, where parking is very limited. Buses run from 8am to 5.30pm and the gates are open until 7pm. The Park and Ride buses are single deckers with the usual access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The buses are also dog friendly.

From Harrogate, Leeds or Otley,

  • Take the A59 to Knaresborough.
  • Follow the York Road to the free parking area at GSPK, Manse Lane, HG5 8LF. FREE Park and Ride buses run from 8am - 5.30pm and the gates are open until 7pm.
  • Parking is also available at Conyngham Hall and Waterside, which are both Pay and Display car parks operated by North Yorkshire Council.

Additional paid parking is available at Chapel Street, Fisher Street and York Place council car parks. Parking is limited close to the Market Square due to road closures. We therefore strongly advise using the Park and Ride if at all possible.
